The book, by noted hymn writer and URC Minister Anne Sardeson, is meant to get you thinking about the hymns that you have come across, however long you’ve been singing them, and the place that music and hymns play in your life and that of the Church and the world.
Coming out of the The United Reformed Church’s 50th anniversary, the book looks back and asks how hymnody reacted to the events that have taken place, and how hymns will be shaped, and shape us, in the years to come.
Anne Sardeson was ‘drafted’ into the church choir where her mother sang alto, her older sister sang soprano and her father was organist and choirmaster. Sacred music has flowed through her life from a very early age.
At the age of eight, Anne discovered she could write a good tune, and wasn’t bad at fitting words in, either. After ordination in 1995, Anne served in several local pastorates, as Training Officer for the URC Thames North Synod and, most recently, as Minister to churches in Maldon, Burnham-on-Crouch and Southminster
